1909 Triumph Veteran Motorcycle For Sale

1909 Triumph TT Roadster for sale

Below are a series of pictures of a lovely 1909 Triumph motorcycle that was for sale in England.

It is owned by a well known Veteran motorcycle collector and rider and is in fine condition and ready to be ridden.

It is a TT Model. The TT model is the sporty version with a shorter wheelbase and is lighter than the normal touring model and has no pedalling pedals, but instead footrests in a conventional layout.

The TT models are much rarer than the normal touring models. They also have shorter, have sportier handlebars which I think make them easier to ride than the traditional longer bars.

The 1908 Triumph was rated at 3.5hp and has a 475cc engine 84mm bore x 86mm stroke, which will propel it to c50mph.

When it was new it cost £50, which was £2 more than the Standard Touring Model.

It is fitted with the correct two coil front suspension.

Originally the adjustment of the valves would have meant grinding metal to adjust valve lengths, which is a bit of a hassle. The owner has had the later adjustable valve adjusters fitted which means you can adjust your valve clearances in a couple of minutes using the lock nuts - a well thought out upgrade.

The owner has the following to say about his fine machine -

This machine was restored by Ian Jennings of Bradford and has taken part in the Pioneer Run and many local events.

It, and I, prefer flat countryside for jaunts because it has a direct-belt drive with no clutch or gears. The use of throttle, brakes, air control and ignition levers is a 'black art' that can soon be learned so that progress, even up difficult hills, can be maintained. I have the original crank pulley that it came with which gears it to about 70mph. How one then starts it, would become a difficulty!

The new owner could consider buying a replica Mabon clutch, or similar device to replace the crankcase mounted pulley. Riding a clutchless Triumph can be a real pleasure on class B or C roads but it is enjoyed best where there are no traffic lights! I am asking £14,000 ono for this beautiful machine. Please call me between 9.00am and 9.00pm if this interests you.

The bike is in the UK in The Cotswolds.

The bike has a Pioneer Certificate and a UK V5 registration document.

The owner mentions Ian Jennings as the restorer. FYI Ian Jennings is absolutely the No1 expert on Veteran Triumphs and has been restoring them for decades. I luckily had Ian rebuild my 1914 engine and he did a superb job and it has done thousands of miles since. An Ian Jennings rebuilt engine is as good as it gets!
