The VW Golf GT TDI 170 or VW Golf TDI 170 is a very fine car that combines sporty performance with exceptional fuel economy. The VW Golf GT TDI 170 (VW Golf TDI 170) first appeared shortly after the arrival of the VW Golf Mk5 in 2003 and continued until 2009 when the VW Golf Mk6 arived. The VW Golf GT TDI 170 (VW Golf TDI 170) continues in the Mk6 Golf in a variety of guises and includes the VW Golf GTD.
The VW Golf GT TDI 170 (VW Golf TDI 170) is a GT version of the Golf with a high performance diesel engine (TDI) that produces 170 bhp. The VW Golf GT TDI 170 (VW Golf TDI 170) more importantly produces a huge amount of torque that gives the VW Golf GT TDI 170 (VW Golf TDI 170) real acceleration at low revs. If you like quick cars with lots of low down power then you will like the VW Golf GT TDI 170. The VW Golf TDI 170 produces a peak of 258lb/ft of torque at just 2,600 rpm and maintains over 200lb/ft from 2,200 to 4,200 rpm. Most car buyers get fixated about maximum bhp, but the important place for "grunt" is in the low and mid range of the engine - what you use to overtake. It has low CO2 emmisions of 156g/km.
The VW Golf TDI 170 has a maximum speed of 137 mph and will do 0-60mph in 8 seconds. If driven economically it will do 60 mpg.
Most of our roads are full of traffic and speed restrictions so you can rarely enjoy your driving so you might as well drive a car that is very economical most of the time. However when road conditions allow the VW Golf GT TDI 170 (VW Golf TDI 170) transforms from comfortable and economical to a rapid car. It produces more torque that the petrol GTI version and only 20bhp less power.
The VW Golf GT TDI 170 was available in a variety of colours and obviously colour is a very personal choice. However having looked at 20+ cars before I bought my VW Golf GT TDI 170 (VW Golf TDI 170), I think the metallic Shadow Blue is the best colour for the car. So what is the ideal specification? A black leather interior looks very good on these cars and whilst other new bought options have lost their value a leather interior will always add £500+ to the value of the car. The factory fitted Sat Nav is not the best of the era and now looks very dated. When you factor in how much it costs to fix or replace and a better option is to use a dedicated 3rd party sat nav or your smartphone.
The VW Golf GT TDI 170 (VW Golf TDI 170) is fine combination of economical and fast - an ideal car.
If you are looking to buy one of these cars or already have one then you should buy the Haynes workshop manual.
It tells you much more about the car than the handbook does and can help solve problems - its invaluable and you can buy them for just £14 from Amazon below.
It can help you save a great deal of time and money at a garage.
On an unrelated automotive subject ...
In October 2011 I published a few pictures of old bikes - my father and his pals riding around Europe in 1953 on a Brough Superior, Triumph Thunderbirds etc and in just a couple of months the page has had over 13 million hits! That web page is here - http://www.go-faster.com/SS100.html
If you like even older bikes, then you may be interested to read about my exploits on my 1914 4hp Triumph. I bought it in November 2011 and being a novice to such ancient machines have started to record my experiences of owning and riding it. It is quite an experience riding a bike with no gears, no clutch and almost no brakes!
